Uganda to emulate Modi political will for transforming sanitation
Uganda Minister of State for Health, Sarah Opendi, attending the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention (MGISC) in Delhi said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's political will that turned into a political and social commitment in India had transformed the country and set it as an example to the world. India had not only demonstrated it was important to build 80 million toilets for the population to use, but equally necessary to put in place a plan to sustain and scale the ecosystem which included maintenance. Uganda would take home lessons shared by India and other countries from the very unique global convention hosted by India and UN agencies. She said Uganda would pursue with India many frontiers of cooperation in clean water and sanitation. The Minister said Modi's visit on 25th July 2018 to Uganda had brought the nations closer together. She said that she and everyone knew there were many Indians (officially estimated to be 35,000+) in Uganda, but during the Modi visit she saw crowds of Indians that made it seem like there were more than those counted for! Political will is the only way to induce society at large to follow and sustain plans such as making nations open defecation free, said the Uganda Minister, complimenting Prime Minister Modi for unflinching resolve to change India.
