Developing world learns sanitation from India, says Senegal Minister
Senegal's Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mansour FAYE, said on the sidelines of the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention (MGISC) in Delhi that the developing world at large, and particularly countries in West Africa like his own, have seen, learned and will now implement plans like Swachh Bharat so that they could achieve the UN SDG no 6 by 2030. While the Senegalese Minister complimented Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an unwavering political will, but he pointed to the startling mass movement in India that made the Clean India drive successful. He said he had never seen such an effective and multi-pronged approach like India that included creating awareness through media and NGOs, schools and movies, teaching people cleanliness, using toilets, operating and maintaining toilet systems and even building toilets. He was truly impressed with the scale of the people's participation which he thought was a must to succeed in sanitation campaigns.
