US Indians greet Modi |
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Mar. 31 was greeted by enthusiastic members of the Indian American community in Washington, D.C., where he is to attend the Fourth Nuclear Security Summit.Modi, who arrived late in the night from Brussels, shook hands and smiled and waved at the Indian community members on the way to the White House to attend the security summit where world leaders from over 50 countries are expected to share their assessment of the threat from nuclear weapons and materials.During his two-day stay in Washington, Modi is scheduled to interact with a number of world leaders, including host President Barack Obama and U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron. India and the U.S. signed an agreement for a new Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory project in India.The agreement was signed between India`s department of atomic energy and the U.S.` National Science Foundation. LIGO shot to fame recently after its scientists proved the gravitational waves theory. The prime minister also met Indian student scientists associated with the LIGO project. Modi is in Wahington to attend the fourth and final edition of the biennial Nuclear Security Summit being held Mar. 31 and April 1.
