A Sikh man and his three Muslim friends are seeking retribution after they were ordered off an American Airlines plane in December 2015 , because their appearance made the flight’s captain uneasy. Shan Anand, a 25-year-old Sikh; and his three Muslim friends, Faimul Alam, 25, a Bangladeshi Muslim, 23; and Arab Muslim, 29; only identified by their initials W.H. and M.K. – all U.S. citizens – were ordered off flight No. 44718 headed from Toronto to New York based on their perceived race, color and ethnicity, according to a CNN report. The group has sued the airline and is seeking $6 million in compensation. Anand and Alam switched seats with a pair of strangers after boarding to sit next to each other and, minutes later, a flight attendant asked W.H. to get off the plane, according to the lawsuit filed . .The lawsuit added that when the group asked why they were ordered off the plane, the flight attendant, a white woman, told them to exit “peacefully” and told them to wait at the gate for further directions. When challenged if they were being thrown off because of their appearance, the agent allegedly told them it “did not help ". The group also said passengers began making racists comments as they were ushered off the plane.
