Saving tree from Mahabharata |
An online campaign aims to save an ancient tree associated with the Mahabharata at a site located 50 km from Lucknow city in Uttar Pradesh state. The Parijat tree is said to have come out of the `samudra manthan` and brought to earth by Arjuna from the garden of Indra for his mother Kunti to offer to Lord Shiva for the Pandavas` victory over the Kauravas. Despite the interest around the tree because of the myths, it is wilting and in dire need of conservation. The online campaign called `Save Parijat` was launched on social media platforms a few months ago and has been gaining ground as the cyber crusaders for the tree`s cause is swelling.
