Rupee breaches 68-level |
Breaking its two-day winning run, the rupee on Dec 27, 2016, tumbled by 32 paise to close at 68.06 against the US currency on month-end dollar demand from importers and banks amid persistent foreign capital outflows.However, equities bucked the forex market trend, with the Sensex rebounding 406 points to end above the 26,000-mark after finance minister Arun Jaitley underlined the need to have globally compatible tax rates to broad-base the economy.Meanwhile, the RBI has fixed the reference rate for the dollar at 67.9967 and euro at 71.0498. In cross-currency trades, the rupee fell against the pound sterling to settle at 83.43 from 83.19 yesterday and also dropped against the euro to finish at 71.12 from 70.81.
