PM Modi`s first Townhall |
India`s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Aug 6 addressed a townhall meeting organized by MyGov - the government`s citizen engagement platform - at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The PM fielded questions from Indian citizens and members of the diaspora community, and spoke about a number of issues , including economic development, agriculture, healthcare and even Gau-rakshaks. Expressing anger at self-proclaimed gau rakshaks, Modi said cows don`t die because of murder, but because they consume plastic garbage. India is among the fastest growing economies in the world. In spite of the recession which has affected the entire world, India`s growth rate is commendable even in the wake of two consecutive droughts. India should target to achieve a growth rate of more than 8% for the next three years. He added that participative democracy is essential. Every citizen should have his or her problems addressed.Governments often think only about winning the next election and shape their policies accordingly. Responsibility with accountability is the hallmark of good governance. On public health, Modi said Indians are ignorant about preventive health measures.
