Aziz Ansari’s “Master of None,” Vijal Patel’s “black-ish,” and director Leslee Udwin’s “Independent Lens: India’s Daughter,” have been named among 60 finalists for the 75th Annual Peabody Awards.From the 60 finalists that have been set by the awards’ board of jurors, 30 winners — the Peabody 30 — will be selected. Those winners will be revealed beginning this week and honored at the Peabody Awards ceremony in New York May 21.Ansari earned rave reviews for his portrayal of Dev Shah in “Master of None,” a hilarious new-age comedy series that aired on Netflix. He co-created the Universal TV series with Alan Yang. The Indian American actor-comedian is currently preparing for a second season of the series.ABC sitcom “black-ish” follows the lives of an upper-middle-class African American family where the patriarch of the family wonders whether all his success has brought too much cultural assimilation for his family. Patel is the writer and co-executive producer of the critically-acclaimed family comedy Director Leslee Udwin’s critically acclaimed documentary, “Independent Lens: India’s Daughter,” which aired on PBS, tells the story of the brutal gang rape and murder in Delhi of 23-year-old medical student Jyoti Singh, which sparked outrage and protests in India.
