Notice to 700 NGOs |
Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sent notices to over 700 NGOs, including one run by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, for not submitting their annual returns. The NGOs have been served a notice to explain why their registration should not be cancelled for not filing their annual returns. NGOs failed to give proof of their expenditure and legitimate spending regarding foreign remittances received from various donors. The list also mentions an NGO Vishwa Gujarati Samaj, of which PM Narendra Modi was the patron during his stint as the Gujarat Chief Minister. In November 2014, it had identified over 10,000 NGOs operating in the country, whose books of accounts were not found in place. 748 of these have been identified as receiving foreign donations but have not filed their return.
