National debate on anti-conversion law |
Indian Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on March 23 called for a national debate on the issue of conversion and the need for an anti-conversion law, and reiterated that the government was committed to ensuring a sense of security for the minorities. Inaugurating the 10th Annual Conference of State Minorities Commissions, Singh raised some key questions that needed to be put across as part of the debate on conversions. He questioned whether conversion was necessary and if social service could not be performed without resorting to conversion. The Home Minister also sought a discussion on whether it was not possible for any religion to prosper without encouraging conversion.
