Muslim men for banning triple talaq |
A day after All India Muslim Personal Law Board fielded women who do not want triple talaq banned and accused Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA) activists leading the campaign against the law of being RSS agents, Muslim men, including eminent citizens, have come up in support of the campaign against the law. From ordinary citizens to scriptwriters Anjum Rajabali and Javed Siddiqi and activist Javed Anand have started sending messages in support of BMMA`s campaign.Javed Anand, general secretary of the group that initiated this campaign, said that this cause has been very close to some progressive Muslims, and they raised their voice against it first in 2003. This time also, he says, it is important because while the triple talaq method of instant divorce is today banned in more than 21 countries having Muslim majority population, including Pakistan, it continues to be justified by the ulema in India as legally valid, even though theologically repugnant, said Anand.
