Modi Africa tour from 7 July |
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to start his four-nation tour from 7 July. During his visit, Modi is expected to visit the infamous Pietermaritzburg railway station in South Africa where Mahatma Gandhi was thrown off a train in 1893. He is also scheduled to address two public meetings, the first in Johannesburg in South Africa on 8 July. At least 10,000 people are expected to be present for the address. The second public meeting will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, on 10 July, which is expected to be attended by 20,000 people.The audience will be Indians living in South Africa and Kenya. Vijay Chauthaiwale, in-charge of foreign affairs cell and overseas friends of the BJP, expected a meeting between prime minister and scientists, professors and students who have visited India in the past in Johannesburg. The BJP leader said that the central theme of Modi’s visit would be that India wants to partner in the development of African countries. Incidentally, President Pranab Mukherjee and the vice-president also visited the continent recently. Modi is also expected to visit Tanzania and Mozambique, where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with the heads of the state.
