Lesotho troupe enthralls at Africa Day in India |
On 25 May 2016 at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) auditorium Azad Bhawan in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs of India put together a cultural program to further forge the bonding of India and Africa. Among the stellar performances included a performance by The Capital City Ministrels, New Delhi, and a Cultural Troupe from Kingdom of Lesotho. Likakapa Africa is a Cultural Ensemble that performs over four Lesotho cultural dances in the bid to promote the Lesotho Culture. Likakapa is a Sesotho noun that means “the Legends” or “crème de la crème” otherwise said. The performances are a blend of Famo Music, Afro jazz, Hip Hop that caters for youth. This is a group comprising some of the heavy weights in the specified genres who in other cases have their own individualised productions. Likakapa is representative of two major Famous artists who, in most of the songs are lead artists, Rabots’o le Semanyane and Lebohang Lets’ohla. They are backed by Tom Rakoti, afro jazz artist and Molibeli Mokake who is in Hip Hop but also a rapper. The two dancers present the stylistic way of dancing to the music that you would commonly see in the streets of major cities and town as well as villages of Lesotho.
