Law on sedition |
India`s Law Commission has been asked to review the sedition law (Section 124A of IPC) as its ambit is “very wide” and often violates freedom of speech, the government said after opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha called for the scrapping of the “colonial relic” in its entirety. MoS (home) Kiren Rijiju said, “If you read (Sec 124A)... it says anybody who speaks against the government can be booked under the sedition law...So, this law also has been brought under the scrutiny, that there must be some amendment to it, because the meaning is very wide.”
