LA bus driver assaulted |
The Sikh Coalition announced that a Sikh man driving a bus in Los Angeles was assaulted and deemed a “terrorist” and “suicide bomber” by a passenger.Additionally, the passenger claimed the bus driver, Balwinder Jit Singh, hijacked the bus. Singh, an Indian American father of five, has worked as a bus driver for nearly two decades. The Coalition statement added that the Sikh man, who was wearing his turban at the time of the assault, managed to keep his foot on the brake pedal, maintaining the safety of the other passengers on the bus. The driver received injuries not considered life threatening, but was left with a black eye, swelling and bruises on his face and jaw, as well as an infection in one of his eyes. Since the Nov. 6, 2015, attack on Singh, he continues to suffer from blurred vision and pain. Initially he did not go public with the incident but has since retained the Sikh Coalition to spread the news and help represent him during the investigation. Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials have said the suspect is in custody with the Los Angeles police on a different criminal case, adding that the suspect only faces misdemeanor charges, the Coalition said.
