India closing generation gap |
Unlike in the US, where employers are bound by law never to ask candidates to reveal their age, in India age discrimination has a visible tilt towards younger hires. Although diversity in terms of gender has been much talked about, the buzz around age diversity is now getting louder in the corporate world. Industry experts said while a large number of younger employees are hired every year, it is equally important for companies to maintain a generational diversity which has a mix of employees in different age groups. A survey shows that 45% of the workforce lies between 30 and 40 years of age. In industrial and infrastructure industries, the employee age averages between 30 and 40, while in consumer and technology, 40-50% of workforce is 35-40 years of age.
