Harish Rawat claims victory |
Amid tight security, a floor test was held on May 10 in the Uttarakhand Assembly to ascertain whether ousted Congress chief minister Harish Rawat still enjoys a majority in the House. In addition to Rawat himself claiming victory, an opposition lawmaker also indicated that Rawat will return as chief minister. The former chief minister is said to have got the vote of 33 of the 61 MLAs. A BJP lawmaker said only 28 MLAs voted for the BJP in the 61-member House. Independent MLA Harish Chandra Durgapal claimed that all six Progressive Democratic Front MLAs - that is, two BSP, 1 UKD and three Independents - have voted for Rawat.Officially, the result of today`s confidence vote will be presented only May 11 - in a sealed envelope - to the Supreme Court.
