Fog stays in Delhi |
The city of Delhi experienced its first spell of continuous fog with two hours of dense fog reported from Indira Gandhi International Airport between 6am on Monday ( November 29 ) and 8am on November 30. Met officials said that November 30 also recorded possibly the worst levels of smoke in the second half of the day when visibility barely crossed 800 metres.Such severe smog during late night and moderate fog during the morning hours may stay till December 1. There is likely to be significant improvement in the visibility from December 2 afternoon or by December 3 . Officials said that visibility fell to 150-200 metres between 6am and 8am on November 30 as a result of the meteorological conditions of the past three days. Though there was a night temperature of 15-17 degrees Celsius at IGI Airport on November 29 , the persistently high levels of smoke, stable lower level of atmosphere and high levels of moisture over the past two days led to the formation of dense fog over the airport. The new runway had low visibility operations for an hour in the morning while there was a moderate fog cover over the airport for 8-10 hours through the night. However, the main runway was spared dense fog due to the high temperatures and hence flight operations were not affected.
