Electric bus in Delhi |
TPromoting eco-friendly public transport service, the Delhi government inducted the city`s first electric bus, on a pilot basis.The bus, which will ply between Delhi Secretariat and Central Secretariat for the next six months, was launched on the initiative of the Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC) and the transport department. It will be run and managed by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The bus has been developed by a Chinese firm, though it is being marketed in India by the Smart Group.The bus will run around 10 round trips through the day, between 6.30am and 9.30pm. The fare will be same as DTC AC buses-the minimum being Rs 10.The electric bus is air-conditioned, has CCTVs and public address system for women safety, fitted with fire fighting equipment, complete medical kit, special seating for differently-abled people, and first class comfortable seating facilities for all passengers. These electric buses are already running successfully in Los Angeles in the US and Shenzhen in China, with trials going on in cities like London and Jakarta.
