Digvijay for AICC elections |
All India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijaya Singh has demanded that the Congress Working Committee be constituted through elections. The long-abandoned system is being pushed at a time when one does not know what Rahul Gandhi would decide. Singh believes elections would put the top body in sync with democracy. The prospects of election to the top decision-making body of Congress — which is provided for in the party constitution but was last held in 1997 — have brightened after the indications that Rahul would succeed mother Sonia Gandhi at the helm soon. Rahul has long advocated that members of the CWC be elected.
