Curbs on 4 NGOs |
The Reserve Bank of India as restricted funding to four American NGOs operating in India after they were found allegedly violating laws related to foreign contributions. The U.S.-based Avaaz, Bank Information Center, Sierra Club and 350 org or their representatives have been barred from receiving funds from abroad. Foreign contributions were being deposited into personal accounts of a few individuals, instead of bank accounts operated under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. The action followed prolonged monitoring of the activities of the four American NGOs.
