Congress shields Sonia in Ishrat case |
The Congress Party has sought to firewall the Gandhis from the escalating controversy over Ishrat Jahan by dismissing as a "bundle of lies" BJP`s allegations that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi gave direction to then home minister P Chidambaram in the case.Unlike RSS, Sonia Gandhi or Rahul never intervened or gave any suggestion to the then home minister P Chidambaram or any other person or authority in the government on any administrative matter, including the Ishrat Jahan case.As he tried to disengage the Gandhis from the controversy over Ishrat Jahan for the third consecutive day, Congress spokesperson Surjewala launched a fresh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah for their desperation to shut down the ongoing trial in the Ishrat Jahan case. Earlier, commerce minister Sitharaman had accused Sonia and Rahul of masterminding the political conspiracy to frame Narendra Modi, then the chief minister of Gujarat, in the Ishrat Jahan case. BJP also alleged that as part of the "conspiracy", the Congress leadership disregarded evidence of intelligence agencies about Ishrat being affiliated with a group of terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba, who had entered Gujarat to eliminate Modi.
