Chooper scam:‘Invincible’ hand seen |
The VVIP chopper scam reverberated in the Rajya Sabha on May 4 with the Congress opposition seeking to rebut charges of complicity of its top functionaries by demanding a Supreme Court-monitored CBI probe into the deal and the Indian government responding by pointing out that the Congress was asking what it did not do when it was in office. Congress fielded former defence minister A K Antony challenging the government, saying it should not hold out threats. He agreed that corruption had taken place but said it was up to the official agencies to investigate. From tweaking of technical parameters to outright favouring of AgustaWestland`s AW-101 helicopters to "some invincible hand" guiding the initial "inaction" by the CBI and the ED, defence minister Manohar Parrikartore into the UPA regime`s "litany of omissions and commissions" while promising that the NDA government would leave "no stone unturned" to unearth the entire conspiracy., Parrikar took swipes at the Congress leadership by holding that there was "a relentless push" by the UPA regime to go for the Rs 3,546-crore deal for the dozen AW-101 helicopters.
