CBI summons Manmohan as scam accused |
India`s former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has been summoned as an accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a ill-famed coal scam case. The case is about favorable and illegal allocation of a coal block to billionaire industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla`s company Hindalco, at the cost of public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation. Along with Singh, Special Judge Bharat Parashar also summoned Birla and two senior officials of Hindalco and former Coal Secretary of India P C Parakh. Singh and the other accused have been asked to appear in court on April 8. Singh reacted saying he is upset but this was part of political life. The Congress Party has expressed its complete support to Dr Singh, and Congress President Sonia Gandhi said she does not doubt Singh`s honesty and integrity.
