BJP tries to get 95 m members |
India`s ruling political establishment, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is trying hard to demonstrate that it has enrolled tens of millions of members. It is an effort to counter the Opposition on the policies of the new Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Several of the recent policy decisions, such as the Land Acquisition Bill, in Parliament have become a problem for the party and the government. BJP started an ambitious and humungous membership drive. BJP officials say that they now have 95 million members through a nation-wide membership drive. BJP is not stopping at that. The party has now embarked upon a membership drive with the `mahasampark abhiyan` or door-to-door verification campaign. BJP asked its workers to reach out to the new members. This implies that those the BJP reached through digital and telephonic contact, such as the controversial `missed calls` should be turned into active party members.
