Ban on women football match |
A women`s football match at Malda in West Bengal was cancelled two days before its schedule after some Muslim hardliners complained that soccer costumes were too tight and argued that women should not be wear such dresses. The incident and the role of the administration came under sharp criticism from politicians and sports persons. Most members of the Progressive Youth Club, that organized the match, are Muslims. The incident happened at Chandipur village in Malda district. It is amusing that the administration agreed with those hardliners who argued women playing football and watching them play is equally sinful.
