Amma markets in Chennai |
You are aware that Ms J. Jayalalitha has been only recently re-elected the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in India. Keeping her popularity in view , Greater Chennai Corporation has finalised three locations to set up the city`s inaugural Amma weekly markets. Besides a strip of land near Mint flyover, Arumbakkam (near Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board office) and Kotturpuram (near Varasiddhi Vinayakar temple) will play host to the market that will feature products manufactured by government-aided and selfhelp groups from across Tamil Nadu.Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy was keen to get as many of his council announcements off the ground before the end of his term. The election to the corporation council will be held in October. There has been a fillip from the Mayor`s office post the state assembly election. He instructed the corporation to push through with Amma brand projects. Officials said plans were gathering pace but it was difficult to fix a time frame on the launch because of organisation-related issues. But the move is good, small manufacturers would get a place to sell without middlemen and people would get it at a reasonable prices.
