Amit Shah cleared in encounter case |
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India of Prime Minister Narendra Modi scored another political victory in that an investigating court has cleared BJP President Amit Shah in a fake encounter killing case. It came as a major relief to Shah that a special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on December 30 discharged him in the case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing in 2005. Special CBI Judge M B Gosavi said in a brief order said that the inference drawn by CBI is not accepted in totality and Shah cannot be charged as an accused. The CBI had charged Shah, the then Minister of State for Home in Gujarat, as an accused in the killing of gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati, who was said to have been an eyewitness to the encounter. The Congress Party described the special CBI court discharging BJP chief Amit Shah in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing case as strange and worrisome, and alleged that there was government pressure on a chained, caged and totally immobilised CBI. Congress party recalled that the BJP used to say during UPA`s rule that CBI was a caged parrot. Now, said the Congress the CBI is now chained, caged and totally immobilized, and asked for a much deeper inquiry.
