Modi : India is the place to invest in |
Indian PM Narendra Modi said that his government had carried out as many as 7,000 reforms to facilitate ease of doing business just at the Union government level. The sky was the limit for investment opportunities in India. Addressing the plenary session of St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Modi listed initiatives taken for FDI, saying international rating agencies had identified India as one of the top three destinations for FDI. India was the guest country at the annual forum this year and Modi the guest of honour. Modi said that goods and services tax (GST) will be implemented from July 1, and this would herald a uniform tax system across the country. Minimum government, maximum governance and `red carpet instead of red tape` have been the basis of governance reforms in India, Modi said, adding that political will and clear vision were necessary for reforms. He said the world was focused on Asia, and therefore, naturally on India. Agreeing with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Modi said technology was going to play a key role, and mentioned the Digital India initiative. He said a "digital divide" could not be allowed to take root in society. The prime minister mentioned the government`s initiatives in financial inclusion, and the Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, Mobile (JAM) trinity.
