Jats defer quota stir |
After hectic parleys with representatives of the Haryana Government lasting more than three hours, Jat leaders announced to defer their agitation till April 3, 2016. Chief Secretary and DGP said their government was working sincerely towards introducing the Jat reservation Bill in the Budget session. The agitators have given two options — either to include Jats in OBC (B) category by raising reservation in this category by 3 per cent or under Schedule 9 of the Constitution. If the government fails to bring in the legislation, they will meet on April 3 to announce the next phase of their agitation. Akhil Bharatiya Jat Mahasabha’s Om Parkash Mann has demanded that Jats be included in BC (B) category as 11 per cent reservation had been given to this category of five castes, comprising only 6.5 per cent of the population.
