Indian Arrival Day 2017 in Trinidad |
The Indian Diaspora Council (IDC) with its global affiliates and membership marked May 30 as the 172nd anniversary of the Indian Arrival Day 2017 in Trinidad & Tobago. ID paid rich tributes to those who made the first journeys as indentured laborers from India arriving in Gulf of Paria in Trinidad this day in 1845 aboard the ship `Fatal Razak`. IDC International President Ashook Ramsaran said that "One is always reminded of their pioneering spirit, determination, persistence and endurance under extremely harsh conditions. While survival must have been the primary concern, they strived and persevered to maintain their sense of origin, traditions and culture. Their children, grandchildren and following generations will always take pride in the invaluable contributions they have made to the diverse culture and economic development of Trinidad & Tobago". Deo Gosine, IDC Coordinator (Trinidad & Tobago) remarked: “We recognize the journeys, hardships, travails and perseverance of a people. While acknowledging that past, we can triumph by taking bold steps like those who came to Trinidad & Tobago and other lands with just a promise, with lots of hope and determination”. IDC congratulated the Government and people of Trinidad & Tobago on the commemoration of this 172ndanniversary of that historic day.
