Haryana invokes NSA |
The Haryana government in India on March 17, 2016, invoked the National Security Act (NSA) in the state for the next three months, delegating the powers of the home secretary to deputy commissioners to prevent a repeat of the mayhem unleashed by Jats in February agitating for reservations. Meanwhile, All India Jat Aarkashan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) deferred the call for agitation in the wake of the proposed meeting with Haryana chief secretary DS Dhesi and DGP YP Singhal on March 18.The NSA was invoked in the wake of the meeting between home secretary P K Das and Haryana DGP Singhal in anticipation of the Jat stir . This was done to facilitate deputy commissioners and officers down the line. Now, officers will be able to take independent decisions to maintain law and order. The Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government invited the ire of all quarters for either mishandling or failing to maintain law and order as the Jat agitation in the state turned violent, claiming 30 lives.
