72 % Delhi MLAs underperforming |
Thirty-three per cent MLAs hardly participated in deliberations in the Delhi assembly in 2015, three MLAs did not raise a single issue in the House and 72 per cent MLAs were found underperforming, according to a report card issued by Praja Foundation, a “non-partisan organisation”, of the performance of MLAs in the national Capital. The grading is based on the legislators’ attendance in the assembly, the number and quality of issues raised by them and draws heavily on public ‘perception’ recorded through a survey of 29,950 residents. AAP MLAs fared poorly not only as compared to their Mumbai counterparts but also against the three Opposition BJP MLAs. Of the 70 MLAs in Delhi, 58 were ranked while the others including the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and Speaker were not ranked as they do not ask questions or raise issues. Delhi’s ruling party AAP MLAs raised on an average 12 issues, while Mumbai’s ruling party (BJP and Shiv Sena) MLAs raised 69 issues on an average.
